In the labyrinth of urban tales, Dewan Masud Karim emerges, a sage of 25 years steeped in the symphony of urban mobility. From the sakura-scented streets of University of Tokyo to the mosaic paths of Toronto Metropolitan University, he crafts symphonies of possibility in the realm of multimodal mobility. He wears the robes of engineering across four Canadian provinces. His voice resonates in global amphitheaters unveiling the secret patterns of human mobility, creative public space reclaims, and downscaling mobility facilities to match basic instinct of human mobility code. His accolades include special awards like "Best Planning System" from MIT Media Lab and "Project of the Year" from ITE in 2015. Beyond applause, his pen inscribes a chapter in "Disrupting Mobility" and authors "Shifting Mobility" in its entirety.

Bio of the person

Dr. A S M Shakil Haider joined the Department of Economics & Social Sciences (ESS) as an Assistant Professor of Economics in September 2021. Dr Haider completed his PhD in Applied Economics from Texas Tech University, USA. He earned his MA in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), USA and completed his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from North South University, Bangladesh with Magna Cum Laude Distinction (majors: Finance, Economics).

Dr Haider’s research interest lies primarily in the field of Applied Econometrics, Economics of Crime, and Experimental Economics. Among his recent contributions, Dr. Haider founded (with Aflatun Kaeser, Adjunct Lecturer, BRAC University) the Behavioral Experiment Lab at BRAC University (https://www.bracu.ac.bd/news/behavioral-experiment-lab-founded-brac-univ...). Currently, he is serving as the Director of the Behavioral Experiment Lab, BRAC University. Furthermore, he also served as the Graduate Coordinator of the Master of Science in Applied Economics (MSAE) program at BRAC University for more than a year.

Prior to joining BRAC University, Dr. Haider worked as a Graduate Instructor at Texas Tech University, as a Lecturer in the Department of Economics & Social Sciences (ESS) at BRAC University as well as a Lecturer in the School of Business & Department of Economics at North South University. He has also worked as a Researcher of Economics at University of Southampton, UK. Dr Haider had the honour to work with Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus on his concept of Microfinance and Social Business. Dr Haider was in HEC-Paris (France) as a Visiting Scholar for the Social Business Certification Program from April 2013 until June 2013.

Media professional for 20+ years. Started as a reporter, then editor and managed 14+ full-time staff to bring out the most widely circulated weekly satire magazine in Bangladesh. Author of multiple books and blogger. Founder and editor at Earki.com, an online media platform that produces satirical Bangladeshi content for an international audience.
